Climate change is not only an environmental issue, but also a major challenge for global security. The impact of climate change is increasingly real and affects political, economic and social stability in various parts of the world. As global temperatures increase, extreme weather phenomena such as floods, droughts and tropical storms are becoming more frequent and intense. This situation could trigger armed conflict, mass migration and threats to critical infrastructure. One of the most significant impacts is the emergence of tensions over natural resources. Clean water and fertile land are becoming increasingly scarce in many regions, especially in already vulnerable countries. Disputes between communities competing for these resources can lead to unrest and conflict. For example, in the Sahel region, competition between farmers and herders due to declining soil quality causes violence that disrupts regional security. In addition, climate change drives population migration. Communities that are forced to leave their areas of origin due to natural disasters or environmental conditions that no longer support life have the potential to create a humanitarian crisis. Neighboring countries may face additional pressure as a result of the influx of refugees, which could worsen relations between countries and heighten the risk of conflict. Climate change also affects food security. Climate uncertainty affects agricultural output, especially in developing countries that rely heavily on agriculture as a primary source of income. Rising food prices can trigger protests and social unrest, as happened in various Arab countries during the Arab spring in 2011. From a geopolitical perspective, militarily powerful countries need to adjust their defense strategies. They are starting to view climate change as a threat on a par with terrorism and armed conflict. Investments in green technology, reducing carbon emissions, and developing disaster-resilient infrastructure are top priorities. Additionally, international cooperation, such as the Paris agreement, is becoming increasingly important to face these challenges collectively. Not only that, the impact of climate change also creates gaps in cyber security. Infrastructure affected by natural disasters may increase vulnerability to cyberattacks. The large scale of post-disaster recovery can be exploited by malicious actors to weaken national resilience. With increasing awareness of the impact of climate change on global security, a holistic approach involving diplomacy, mitigation and adaptation is urgently needed. Collaboration between countries, international organizations and civil society is the key to creating effective and sustainable policies. They must unite to confront these threats and work towards a safer and more stable future.
